Anything that is developed by the hacker community or hacker developer community built applications , product ideas should be do with social inclusiveness and should benefit society at large.
But one thing to be taken well in this front and one hacker developer community which by its name has been doing good some of work has received appreciation from National Association Software Service Commission (NASSCOM)
National Association of Software Service Commission (NASSCOM) Foundation which is helping the host of the voluntary organisation has very much made any applications and product ideas brought by hacker community necessarily available to so called social goodness (RHOK)
“Open hack brings a lot of the techies, the software developers who have tools or built in applications, product ideas but of course of course Intellectual property as to the tools, application remain with them or product ideas but NASSCOM Foundation will make the voluntary organisations NGO to get the tools”
“Octware and TELiBrahma two companies which have their own developed tools and application has come forward in providing some of the software developed tools, applications and made available to National Association for Blind (NAB) is one such example in NASSCOM Foundation front.
And NAB by this has been able to keep track of those other voluntary association in India working in the same front as to blind, raise funding, provide expertise by the tool etc., said Prashant Pandit of NASSCOM Foundation and Manager of MyKartavya.com.
Prashant also made known to 4th Estate that NASSCOM has been constantly working independently with developers, hackersOr in network engaging developers, partnered with NASSCOM Foundation and voluntary organisation like NGO, has so far trained 800 NGO’s and 2,000 individuals in the country working in it working in various front be it on health, education, urban development, environment ,infrastructure using best of tools and application developed by hackers community.
So far what NASSCOM Foundation part of NASSCOM has found out is in finding good cause some of the hackers, company which are engaging them are doing. The difficulty of course in using the tools and application developed by hackers and community is known especially but what NASSCOM Foundation has been able to do in this front is to train some of the volunteers, by NASSCOM itself or by asking the developers to train, however the minimal cost of training has to be borne by that particular NGO’s or voluntary organisation.
The training the volunteers has been taking place once in two years by identifying the NGO’s who want to have hackers tools interface, and here such kind of training so far has taken place in identified NGO’s in the State of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarath, Harayana, and Tamil Nadu, while lot of the other states the work just need to penetrate.
Though what present hackers primarily focus of most of the software developed tools, applications, or product by companies will be much of business centred, for e-commerce, because of the money they generate by developing this tools
But what need one must observe is that this hackers had focused on the social entrepreneurship side and developed tools, applications which have benefit the society and voluntary organisation where they can use it effectively, and hackathon held under the RHOK time and again is testimony, with last RHOK hackathon being held in June 2011, in Bangalore at Jaga centre or Yahoo office .
Where Hacakathon which lasted two to three days, hackers come with good number of tools applications with tags and like where society has benefitted from it, that is voluntary organisation benefit by it.
Prashant Pandit on the occasion speaking to 4th Estate on the NASSCOM Foundation sought help said “time and again we had sought the help of the RHOK, or group of hackers on various front, now what one group of hackers working on RHOK, and wishing to participate in next hackathon conducted by RHOK (whose name was revealed ) are doing some good work.SC
“What interesting about this hackers community is that this hackers have found restaurant, hotels and marriage halls, choultry in Bangalore wherefood after eaten by guest being wasted, thrown out wasted thrown to dogs .
“So these brilliant hackers have developed tools with good number of applications, which work within network, known as ‘move FOOD’ where restaurant, hotel owners, individuals, party halls who have in their mobile certain applications, feeded to it
Just by pressing certain number with application ‘move FOOD’ by pressing the message is sent to nearest place where the concerned person with mobile van facility attached to an organisation listed under the network would collect the food, nearest or farthest, it work with good set of applications, would take food.
Where you want to source or if you don’t want to source the food, or if other wants. It works in various ways, but developer are still working on it, and developer has said to NASSCOM Foundation, that by next RHOK hackathon it will be ready.
“We at NASSCOM Foundation is to see which organisation come to take that tools, even some voluntary organisation come forward, we will introduce those voluntary organiser with this tools and ask them to sought the help of the developer of the tools within the hacking community
.
